  • Jean Bacon, Ph.D., is currently the Executive Director at Butterfly, a community mental health agency. She served on the faculty at Stony Brook University’s School of Social Welfare for fifteen years. She has experience teaching practice, group work, and treatment of children and adolescents. Dr. Bacon’s research areas include bereavement, grief reactions, cultural diversity, and HIV/AIDS. She has practiced for over 20 years utilizing individual, family, and group treatment modalities. Her ongoing training experience includes educating child welfare workers about: leadership development, stress reduction, and understanding and treating child abuse and maltreatment. She has presented both nationally and internationally on subjects related to building community, treatment issues, diversity, and group work. She has published in a number of journals and continues to support social work education and group work. Dr. Bacon co-chaired the 2012 IASWG Symposium in Long Island, NY. and serves as a committee member of the IASWG Recruitment Retention Project.
